Plant specific

instructions

Click on the icon to download growing instructions for each vegetable . I use this document as a reminder of the most important things to consider when growing each vegetable. I fill in the document during the growing season and summarize my experiences at the end of the season. It is very valuable to do this in order to learn from your own successes and failures and adjust your growing strategy for the next season.

How to interpret the document:

DS                                      = Direct seed (ie you sow directly in the bed outdoors without propagating indoors

T                                         = Transplant (ie you sow indoors and then plant the young plants in the bed outdoors

Germination                        = Germination time - how long it takes a seed to start growing

Days in cells                       = The number of days the plant should be in the seeding trays before planting out

Maturity (DS / T to harvest) = The number of days the plant is in the bed before it is harvested

Space betw plants               = Distance between the plants within each row of a bed

Space betw rows                 = Distance between each planting row. If it is e.g. 3 rows per 75 cm bed, it is 25 cm between the rows.

Earliest time in ground         = Earliest date when you should plant outdoors, based on last frost day. These dates apply in a large part of mid Sweden. The                                                      will have an earlier date. In London it will be two weeks earlier than the dayes in this document.

Earliest indoor seeding date = Earliest date when you can sow the seed indoors, given the last frost day. These dates apply in a large part of mid Sweden.

The UK will have an earlier date. In London it will be two weeks earlier than the dayes in this document.
